Maternal mortality is the most important indicator of women's reproductive health, reflecting not only the level of socio-economic well-being, but also the availability, safety and quality of obstetric and gynecological care. Based on official statistics, maternal mortality in the Russian Federation has been declining in recent years, but still remains high in comparison with other countries. The review article analyzes the structure of maternal mortality in the Russian Federation. The main set of measures for further development of obstetric and gynecological care in the region is outlined.
